In this interactive presentation, the concepts of wondering and reflection during service delivery with young children and their families will be explored.  We will discuss the importance of demonstrating curiosity when supporting child and family relationships as well as those of the practitioner and supervisor.  We will practice wonder in case presentations and group discussions.

Johanna Van-Doren Jackson

Johanna Van Doren-Jackson is the Senior Manager of the Infant-Toddler Connection of Loudoun within Loudoun County Government which provides federally and state mandated services to young children with disabilities. Johanna first began working in Part C Early Intervention as a speech-language pathologist focusing on children with complex medical needs, autism, and those in bilingual and bicultural homes. She later established a private practice concentrating on children under the age of four, particularly those affected by autism, difficulties with multilingual acquisition, and the methamphetamine epidemic. Johanna’s professional interests include the social-emotional bonds of children with disabilities and their parents, autism in young children, and bilingual language development. She has the Virginia Infant Mental Health Endorsement® as an Infant Family Specialist, is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist, and has a master’s degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park. The mother of three grown children, Johanna lives in Leesburg, Virginia with her husband, two dogs, a cat, and a garden.  She enjoys traveling, gardening in Virginia, and kayaking in Maine.
